Editing and designing a publication documenting three years of research, assembling conjecture and archive around a never-built armillary sphere, publishing a foundational story for a neighbourhood through speculative and performative means.
The book accompanies a broader project investigating a specific event: the laying of the First Stone of an armillary sphere monument on 17 June 1991 in Valdebernardo, a peripheral residential neighbourhood on the eastern edge of Madrid. The monument was never built. Drawing on archival documents, interviews with residents, and spatial analysis, Vendedores de Humo reconstructed the history of the unbuilt object and proposed an emancipatory ceremony for the neighbourhood. The project was developed through a residency at La Colmena, the cultural platform of La Grieta in Madrid, and was subsequently shown at La Grieta in the exhibitions Arritmias (2018) and Revolcón (2019), before being selected for the Ayudas a la Creación Injuve 2019 and presented at Sala Amadís, Instituto de la Juventud, Madrid, in 2021.
