Miscelánea Paulistana

São Paulo, BR (2014)
as Vendedores de Humo, with Blanca Gómez Terán
Editing a conceptual "miscellany" born from a fascination with the overwhelming and stimulating complexity of São Paulo. Developed within the FAU USP (University of São Paulo) under the guidance of professors Clice de Toledo Sanjar Mazzilli and Carlos Roberto Zibel Costa, the project was presented at the Fanfunzine Self-publishing Festival 2014 as an exercise in visual design and critical creation. Adopting the satirical, encyclopedic framework of Schott’s Original Miscellany, the publication functions as a fragmented archive of the city’s identity, moving away from the sanitized imagery of traditional tourist guides to document the urban territory in its most absurd and high-contrast manifestations: academic architectural analysis—such as Walter José Ferreira’s study on the functionality of the Copan Building—is placed alongside indigenous Tupi-Guarani linguistics, recipes for local salgados, and data on the city’s most wanted criminals. The visual narrative bridges fabulous trivialities with social realities, featuring illustrations of iconic streets by Marta M. Legido, Pedro Ermel and Ángela León, and a comprehensive documentation of automatic garages by Damien Murat.
